"There are a lot of documents, a lot of recorded conversations". The committee on the motion for a Constitutional Tribunal for the NBP president is collecting materials

The Sejm Constitutional Accountability Committee (ODK) is still working on a preliminary motion to bring the NBP president A. Glapiński before the State Tribunal, is collecting materials and analyzing them. The next session may take place in June - the chairman of the Committee, Zdzisław Gawlik from KO, informed PAP Biznes.
"The Commission is still working on the initial motion for Glapiński. New documents in the case are emerging and being analyzed, which are coming from individual institutions involved in various projects that include allegations in the initial motion. There will be further decisions regarding witnesses. We are working," Gawlik said.
"There are a lot of documents, a lot of recorded conversations, a lot of things. It's not like something only happens when there's a Commission meeting. People are working, analyzing all these documents. When will the next meeting be called on this matter? I think it will be in June," he added.
The last plenary session of the ODK on the application for Glapiński was held in December 2024. In the autumn of 2024, the ODK heard the first witnesses in this case. They were middle managers of BGK, non-public persons. The list of witnesses initially included over 60 names.
A group of MPs from the ruling coalition submitted a preliminary motion to bring the President of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński, before the State Tribunal to the Sejm in March 2024. The motion accuses the President of the National Bank of Poland of violating the constitution and laws, including by indirectly financing the budget deficit through asset purchases in 2020-2021, conducting this purchase without "due authorization" from the Monetary Policy Council and by violating the order for the President of the National Bank of Poland to remain apolitical.
NBP considers the allegations to be completely unfounded and believes that the entire proceeding may paralyze the work of the central bank. NBP President Adam Glapiński announced in October last year that NBP will not participate in the procedure to bring him before the State Tribunal, and any decisions of the ODK are not important for the bank.
After conducting the proceedings, the Committee presents a report on its work to the Sejm together with a motion to hold the person accountable before the State Tribunal or to discontinue the proceedings.
A resolution on holding accountable before the State Tribunal, among others, the President of the National Bank of Poland, is passed by the Sejm by an absolute majority of votes in the presence of at least half (230) of the statutory number of Deputies.
The resolution suspends the person it concerns from performing their duties. However, in 2024, the Constitutional Tribunal questioned the provisions in this case.
The President of the NBP is appointed and dismissed by the Sejm upon the request of the President.
